The Opportunity

Founded in 2001 by Senior Pastor Eui-cheol Kim, Songdo Ganaan Church aimed to revive and expand its congregation. Located in Hwaseong-si, Republic of Korea, the church can comfortably seat around 2,600 members across three floors, with an option to add an extra 200 seats when necessary. The church’s mission to lead the world in worship through speech and music—delivered by choirs or full orchestras—necessitated a large-scale audio-visual upgrade. This upgrade was aimed at delivering crystal-clear sound to every seat in the church.

The Solution

TechDataPS Co., Ltd. and Saegyero-In-Sound collaborated to equip Songdo Ganaan Church with state-of-the-art JBL Professional loudspeakers. The upgrade included JBL’s VTX A-Series line array speakers, strategically positioned to suit the venue’s unique architectural style and ensure even sound distribution. The main speakers used were the VTX A12, comprising 24 units in total, with 12 units per side, 6 units on the first floor, 3 units on the second floor, and 3 units on the third floor. These were powered by Crown I-Tech 4×3500HD amplifiers.

To provide deep, impactful bass, 8 units of VTX B28 subwoofers, powered by Crown I-Tech 12000HD amplifiers, were installed in a cardioid configuration to reduce unnecessary reflections and ensure consistent delivery. Four units of front-fill JBL AC25 loudspeakers were placed in front of the stage to direct sound accurately towards the podium.

To address the issue of ‘acoustic blindspots’ in small divided spaces and the wide vertical coverage needed for the three tiers of seats, 36 units of JBL AC18 loudspeakers were installed to deliver consistent audio to all seats. This setup effectively minimized interference from the balconies and ensured clear sound for all churchgoers.

The Impact

“Since we upgraded to the JBL VTX A Series Line Array, we have been able to deliver performances for a wide range of music, from orchestral to modern worship songs with rock and EDM elements,” said Donghyun Yoo, the person in charge of the audio and broadcasting system at Songdo Ganaan Church. “Our members have been extremely satisfied and delighted by the new sound system.”
